'Breathless (A Bout De Souffle)' Original Japanese B2 Poster (1978)

An original Japanese theatrical poster printed in 1978 to accompany the re-release of Breathless (À bout de souffle), Jean-Luc Godard’s landmark 1960 film.

Godard’s debut feature introduced audiences to the restless, cigarette-flicking Michel (Jean-Paul Belmondo) and Patricia (Jean Seberg), the American student who becomes his equal in romance and rebellion. More than a crime drama, Breathless reshaped the language of cinema — its improvised energy, street-level realism, and daring jump cuts announced the arrival of the French New Wave and influenced generations of filmmakers worldwide. Alongside Truffaut’s The 400 Blows and Resnais’s Hiroshima mon amour, it helped bring a new, modern vision of filmmaking to international audiences. Over the decades the film has been repeatedly ranked among the greatest ever made and remains one of the defining works of twentieth-century cinema.

This Japanese poster was produced eighteen years after the film’s premiere and now stands as a period artefact in its own right — a surviving piece of 1970s exhibition history, now more than four decades old.

The poster is in exceptional, collector-grade condition. The paper presents as fresh and vibrant, with strong colour throughout.
