A farewell. A fragment. A final enigma from cinema’s most unrelenting mind.
This Japanese B5 poster (approx. 18 x 26 cm) was issued for the theatrical release of Film Announcement of the Film That Will Never Exist: “Drôles de guerres”, the last artistic statement by Jean-Luc Godard, released posthumously in 2023. Produced by Saint Laurent under Anthony Vaccarello and screened in the Cannes Classics section, the film is less a movie than a meditation — part trailer, part ghost, part manifesto.
The design echoes the film’s abstraction: a swirl of red and black like a smudged memory, printed starkly against white. There are no stills, no faces — only brushstrokes, names, and silence.
Issued in limited quantity for Japanese art-house screenings, this poster is already elusive. It speaks not to nostalgia, but to continuity — to the idea that cinema, like Godard himself, never ends. It only transforms.
Original Japanese B5 theatrical poster, near mint condition, ships flat.
