A Quiet Archive of Film, Photography, and Cultural Memory

Our Name, Our Approach

The word “FUKAMI” (深見) comes from Japanese, combining “deep” and “to see.” It reflects not just vision, but an attitude — because film and photography are visual arts that ask us to look closely. The most meaningful works don’t shout; they reveal themselves when we pause, observe, and feel. A crease in the paper, the way light falls in a frame — each detail carries traces of time and emotion.

Where We Begin

FUKAMI began as a personal archive: a decade-long pursuit led by founder Kitty Wong, shaped by a background in rare books and experience within international film and photography circles. Her curatorial eye was further refined through mentorship with Magnum photographer Richard Kalvar. What started with a few collected pieces became a practice of preservation — and then, a space to share it with others.

How We Collect

Our pieces come from quiet corners: a film poster from a Tokyo cinema’s back office; a hand-signed photobook pulled from a Paris dealer’s shelf; a vinyl score pressed once, never again. We collaborate with collectors, archivists, and artists around the world, seeking items that are both rare and meaningful — each one carefully researched, verified, and contextualised.

What We Offer

We don’t promise abundance. We offer intimacy. Most items are one-of-a-kind, or close to it. Some may carry imperfections, but we see those as part of their story. This is a space for those who believe that beauty lives in nuance — and that the most powerful objects are the ones that whisper.

Why It Matters

At FUKAMI, collecting isn’t about accumulation. It’s about preservation — of voices, visions, and moments that might otherwise fade. We believe that objects can hold memory. That to care for them is to care for where we come from — and where we’re going.

A NOTE TO YOU

If you’re here, perhaps something has already stirred. Whether you're a lifelong collector or just beginning to notice the weight of certain things, we invite you to browse with intention. Linger. Return. Let what’s quiet speak.

Welcome to FUKAMI. Look deeply. Keep what matters.
