3/4 of a Second with Elliott Erwitt (2001)

A rare and thoughtfully preserved exhibition catalogue from the 2001 Kyoto retrospective "The Smiling Face of Happiness", held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Elliott Erwitt’s photographic career.

Elliott Erwitt is one of the most iconic figures in 20th-century photography—an enduring master of candid, humanistic, and often humorous imagery. As a core member of Magnum Photos, Erwitt’s work blends lightness and depth, capturing everything from the absurdity of everyday life to the poignancy of quiet moments, whether between world leaders or small dogs on the street. The exhibition, titled The Smiling Face of Happiness (「幸福の横顔」), showcased Erwitt’s most emblematic images—images that, across five decades, reflect his unique way of seeing the world.
